To really do anything with Aero Glass, Microsoft says you'll need a DirectX 9-compliant 3D 128-MB video card that supports Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware and includes (WDDM (Windows Device Driver Model) driver. Practically speaking, that means you'll need a 2006-vintage 3D graphics card. But, is that really enough?

If the game takes too long to start up, try disabling Aero Glass (or under compatability disable desktop composition). slowly with too low performance if you don’t install the driver of your graphic card manually although Vista automatically recognizes and installs the drivers of your graphic card and DirectX.

So
though Vista may not run better than XP...It does not necessarily run any worse. Other than UAC of course...the only other *very noticable* difference I've found comparing Vista to XP is that Vista definately requires a much better video card. For my purposes...I'm not yet ready to go with Vista as my daily OS.

A VM in VPC does not use the real video card, it uses an emulated video card with 8MB of RAM. There is no issue, this is exactly how VPC and VMs work. To get Aero Glass in a VM, you need to have Vista on the host machine and then connect to VM using RDP. If you wish to run the glass features you purchased Vista for

... big hard drive, loads of RAM, and high end video card for something productive (encode video, improve framerates on games, etc). If the OS requires 512MB RAM, and 64MB video card, what does that leave for the applications? This "Aero Glass" just sounds like a complete and total waste of everything.

Sure, sometimes it does make mistakes (and it does need something to tell you if your video card will support Aero Glass!). In my opinion, Microsoft has grown leaps and bounds in the past year or so on the front of consumer support. Not only in the OS arena. I've seen more Microsoft developers in the newsgroups,
